The Challenge
Unit 4 at Tollgate Shopping Precinct in Smethwick needed a gas service upgrade to enhance capacity and meet modern standards. The project required working through a block-paved pedestrian area with no negative impact on access, and completing all works with zero disruption to surrounding businesses.
Our Approach
USP delivered a streamlined upgrade from a 32mm LP gas service to a 63mm LP gas service, managing every aspect from design to commissioning.
Design and Coordination
Procured an approved LP gas design and coordinated all aspects of the upgrade, ensuring every element was planned before arriving on site.
Installation and Commissioning
Installed and commissioned a new LP gas network system, including a U25 gas meter. All work was executed through a weekend schedule to minimise disruptions to nearby businesses.
Compliance
Conducted all work from excavation to reinstatement using approved methods and adhering to all NRSWA and CAD approval requirements. Zero compliance issues were raised during audits by the client and local authorities.
The Results
The project was successfully completed in a single visit over one weekend. Zero compliance issues were reported during audits. Minimal disruption to businesses was achieved through careful scheduling and traffic management. Accurate documentation, including as-laid records and certification, ensured a seamless handover.
What Made the Difference
By carefully planning and executing the upgrade with a focus on efficiency and collaboration, USP met the client’s goals while maintaining safety, quality, and customer satisfaction. The single-visit weekend approach demonstrated that even in busy retail environments, gas infrastructure work can be delivered cleanly and without fuss.
