The Challenge
Green Frog Utilities contracted USP to lay a new intermediate gas pressure main for a power generation site in Weston-super-Mare. The work involved laying 300m of HDPE pipe in a highly populated business park in the centre of a busy seaside town. The project required careful traffic management and coordination with multiple stakeholders to maintain 24/7 access for local businesses.
Our Approach
The team executed the project with precision, focusing on safety, quality, and stakeholder collaboration across four construction phases.
Mains Installation
Installed 343 metres of 180mm HDPE IP gas mains using the open cut method, including crossing an existing HP gas main safely.
Hot Tap Connection
Coordinated a hot tap connection to an 8 inch steel IP main to supply the electric generation site, ensuring uninterrupted service to existing consumers.
Traffic Management
Developed comprehensive traffic management plans and CAD drawings to ensure safe execution in a high-traffic industrial estate. Flawless traffic management maintained 24/7 access for a bus depot and superstore within the estate.
Compliance and Documentation
Fully resourced the project with trained operatives and a dedicated Project Manager to oversee stakeholder engagement and compliance with CDM and NRSWA regulations. Detailed documentation including photographic evidence, test certifications, and as-laid drawings provided full transparency.
The Results
The project was completed successfully on time, adhering to ML2 compliance standards. The team safely navigated challenging site conditions, including avoiding HV cables and existing gas mains. Compliance audits by the client and local authorities reported zero issues.
