Utility Connection FAQs for the Midlands

The main gas distribution network in the Midlands is Cadent, which covers the West Midlands, East Midlands, and surrounding areas. USP holds LRQA GIRS accreditation and works directly with Cadent on all gas connection applications, design approvals, and network adoptions across the region.
Severn Trent Water is the principal water and sewerage company across the Midlands. USP holds WIRS and WIAPS accreditations and works with Severn Trent on new water mains, service connections, Section 104 adoptions, and diversions throughout the region.
The Midlands electricity distribution network is managed by National Grid Electricity Distribution (formerly Western Power Distribution). USP holds LRQA NERS accreditation and handles all point of connection applications, LV and HV design, cable installation, and energisation through the local DNO.
Timelines vary by utility and project scale. A standard residential gas or water connection typically takes 6 to 10 weeks from design to live supply. Larger multi-plot schemes or HV electricity connections may need 12 to 20 weeks.
